A l'encontre de la conception classique, qui se donne pour impératif une reproduction au plus proche du réel, Nadine Bénichou choisit une conception plus contemporaine et abstraite qui considère la photo comme créatrice d’effets. Ses cadrages laissent apercevoir un monde situé au-delà du visible, un monde qui resterait imperceptible sans le passage par l’artefact. Elle brouille la lisibilité, retarde la compréhension, joue avec le regard, les repères. Son travail expérimental, attentif aux incidences, offre une vision dé-réalisante. Son goût pour les formats et les instruments de poche l’ont tout naturellement orientée vers la photo mobile, cette forme artistique encore controversée parce qu’elle démocratise la chambre noire. Nadine n’en aime que plus cet outil ludique qui brouille les frontières artistiques et se révèle unique pour saisir sur le vif la dynamique des espaces urbains.

My photographic work is not about documenting the world as it is. Instead, I try to challenge our perception habits by showing strange, abstract and textured images. It is my way of questioning our nostalgic quest for authenticity and our belief that photography, unlike cinema, has to show a faithful representation of reality. Painting is where my artistic work began, which probably explains why I do not see photo edition as cheating, but simply as a possible tool in the creative process. My taste for pocket formats and instruments led me to mobile photography (photography with a smartphone), a controversial form of art since it democratizes the darkroom. I particularly like this mobile tool which both challenges our conception of art and technique and allows a better snap of urban dynamics. I consider mobile photography as an outsider form of art: experimental, spontaneous, creative and free of dogma.

Nadine Bénichou vit à Paris. Ses photos et créations numériques ont fait l’objet de plusieurs expositions personnelles et ont été projetées lors d'expositions collectives à Paris, New York, Madrid et Shawinigan, au Canada. Elle est cofondatrice du Mobile Camera Club.
