Helen Breznik, dont la démarche rappelle celle de Cindy Sherman, multiplie costumes et installations pour nous plonger dans des ambiances familières, symboles ou stéréotypes de leur époque. Véritable caméléon, elle se transforme avec maestria en actrice des années 20, en personnage historique comme Napoléon ou Marie Stuart, en rock star ou en gravure de mode... recréant à chaque fois les codes visuels de l’époque.

« Ma photographie est un lieu qui ne connaît pas de limites. Un lieu où je peux sans peur être qui je veux. Où je peux échapper à l'ordinaire et rejoindre un monde idyllique. Je crée des personnages qui ne sont pas nécessairement « moi », mais qui sont le reflet de ce qui me plaît. »

Helen Breznik’s work reminds us of Cindy Sherman’s, multiplying costumes and setups in order to plunge us into familiar ambiances, representing symbols and stereotypes of a given period or situation. Like a chameleon, she transforms herself with panache into a roaring 20’s actress, or into historical figures like Napoleon or Mary Stuart, rock stars, fashion plates… recreating each time the necessary visual codes.

"My photography is a place where there are no limits. A place where I can be fearless, where I can be whomever I like. Where I can escape from the ordinary to an idyllic world. I create characters that are not necessarily "me", but they are a reflection of what appeals to me.”

Helen Breznik est photographe, illustratrice et graphiste, elle vit à Toronto. Sa passion est la photographie et depuis 2010, elle travaille exclusivement avec son iphone, et essentiellement à la création d'autoportraits. Son travail a été exposé nationalement et internationalement, à la ArtHaus de San Francisco, à la soHo Gallery for Digital Art de New York, au EyeEm Festival de Berlin, au Museo di Milano en Italie et au Mira Forum au Portugal.

Helen is a photographer, illustrator and graphic artist based in Toronto, Canada. Her passion is photography and since 2010 she has worked exclusively with her iPhone ,with a focus on self-portraiture. Her work has been exhibited both nationally and internationally at venues including ArtHaus in San Francisco, the Soho Gallery for Digital Art in New York, The EyeEm Festival in Berlin, The Museo di Milano in Italy and the Mira Forum in Portugal.
